I am currently running Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition and I am looking for protection for my Exchange Server, which is running on a windows NT Box.
My Symantec agent has suggested that in order to protect my Exchange server I need to purchase Symantec AntiVirus Enterprise Edition. My question is

1. If I invest in this new product, what happens to my current install of Symantec AntiVirus CORP Edition? (They both seem similar when I look at the specs with the exception of the Exchange protection.)

2. Is it possible to just add the Exchange protection to my current configuration or do I really need to buy a new product?

Thanks in advance.

Enterprise edition still has Symantec Antivirus Corp Edition in it, what enterprise edition does it add more products to the package that you buy. Heres a list whats in enterprise edtion:

Symantec AntiVirus for SMTP Gateways
Symantec AntiVirus/Filtering for Microsoft Exchange (pdf file)
Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition
Symantec AntiVirus/Filtering for Domino (Win 2000/NT)
Symantec Web Security

I dont know is thats what your looking for, but you could also just buy a single product like Symantec Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange instead of buying the whole enterprise package.

You wouldnt have to change your current setup of Corp Edition as it would just be the samething anyway.

With your current setup i dont think its possible to add Exchange protection.

Hi thanks for the feedback. On looking at the details of Symantec Enterprise Edition, I realised just what you said about it having more features, most of which I already have or don't need. I just need protection for my Exchange Server Mailboxes.

You mentioned Symantec Mail Security, but why did you go on to say that with my current config, it would not be possible to add Exchange protection? I am aslo looking a something called Symantec AntiVirus Filtering 3.0 for MS Exchange. Any ideas?

Sorry, I meant with your current software that you have you wouldnt beable to do exchange protection without purchasing more software todo it. If i recall right Symantec Antivirus Filtering 3.0 for exchange is the older version of it and it was re-named to Symantec Mail Security for Exchange which i think is version 4.0 of the software. I think they added exchange 2003 protection into it and few other bits also changed the way lisencing works with it.
