Hello there all!

We have 3 file servers and 1 small business server (SBS) which host our Exchange 2003. We have only began to use the SBS on our network and ever since our backup server has not been work really well. The backup server did work (at least most of the time) before I implemented the SBS. Another thing is that my boss had helped me to more the backup server to another server rack and therefore I don't know if it is contributing to the backup problem.

The backup server is finally able to backup the SBS successful as well as 2 of the file servers. The only problem it can not backup is the 3 file server we have. For the life of me, I can not figure out why it can backup the other servers and not the other one. This is the error I get from the log file:

If the problem it is with the tape drive which is a HP Autoloader 1/8, then why does it back up the other server successfully and not the one in question?

If anyone can give me some ideas, I would really appreciate it.

Thanks,
Helen

make sure that the backup exec remote agent is running on the server that you are unable to backup.

-------------------------------

If it doesn't leak oil it must be empty!!

Making sure that remote agent was install was the first thing I have looked at. I have even remote it and reinstall it again but still the problem persisted.

Try changing the resource order around in the job. Backup the problem server first. Also check the problem server app/system log to see if the remote agent is stopping and restarting. If its not then there is a network problem that is interuppting the ports Backup Exec is streaming data on. The benchmark error above can be ingnored it just means that it was in the middle of streaming data and it was inconsist when the connection was lost

I had this problem once on a Netware file server, I ended up moving old backups into another folder and seemed to pass the problem.

How many licenses do you have for the Remote Agent?

-SQLBill

SQLBill, we got more than enough licence for the remote agent.

k3n85, I will try your ideas if today's backup job does not go through.

It seems to be backup up now since I moved the SCISI cable to a different slot (odd). The error I am getting now on two file servers and here they are:

Backup- DAGFILE1AOFO: Initialization failure on: "D:". Advanced Open File Option used: Symantec Volume Snapshot Provider (VSP).
Snapshot provider error (0xE0008520): Device could not be snapped because it contains an active cache file.
Check the Windows Event Viewer for details.

Backup- OCI2000AOFO: Initialization failure on: "D:". Advanced Open File Option used: Symantec Volume Snapshot Provider (VSP).
Snapshot provider error (0xE0008520): Device could not be snapped because it contains an active cache file.
Check the Windows Event Viewer for details.

All the problems I have encountered have been resolved. Thank you for all your response. For the errors above, all I have to do was recreate the backup jobs again. I ran a differential (monday to thursday) and a full backup every friday. I created a backup select list and associate this policy to the differential and full backup and thats what causing the error.
