I have uninstalled the expired corporate edition of Syamntec AntiVirus from a clients machine that he bought used.
This machine was full of trojans & virus etc and had lots of problems which I have cleaned up.

My last one is to get the Symantec AntiVirus to stop trying to reinstall itself. Whenever I start Windows Explorer the Wndows installer fires off and tries to reinstall the AntiVirus program. It can't because it cant find the corporate server it is looking for since the machine is no longer on the corporate network.

Since I have uninstalled the program I don't know why it is doing this. How do I make it stop?

Thanks

Really, what you need to do is to format (use something like DBAN), and then reinstall the whole system.

Think about it - if you can't stop Norton from trying to reinstall itself, then how do you know you can stop every possible malware infection from trying to reinstall itself? There are some that hide in all sorts of places.

DBAN will clear off EVERYTHING from that disk.

Then install Windows, etc.

I ESPECIALLY would do this, KNOWING it was loaded with various malware. It just isn't worth the risk, especially if the client is going to use the internet.

If they don't want to pay for the time to do that, then just advise he do it himself. It's VERY important.
