Hi all,

My client is currently running Symantec AntiVirus Filtering for Exchange 2000 version 3.05.10.105. Almost every week when I show up the SAVFMSE processes are hogging all the server's memory. A few weeks ago I actually boosted the servers memory from 256MB to 768MB. This helped initially but now the problem is just as bad and I have no idea what is wrong. I figured I would try and restart the service to reduce the load on my server but the SAVFMSE service does not shut down and just sits in the "stopping" state. I restarted my server last week when this happened but I cannot do that this week. Is there any way to shut down the service manually and unload the running processes?

I have triple checked to make sure that SAVFMSE is not scanning directories it should not be. I have also called Symantec but alas they are of no help because regular maintnence has expired.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Never mind. I figured it out myself.

Just in case anyone is interested, I used the Windows NT resource kit tool, kill.exe to kill the smserv.exer process manually.
