If someone can help me, it would be greatly appreciated. I'm trying to install Symantec Antivirus Corporate Edition Version 9.0 onto a Windows NT server. I want to set it up to be managable from another computer that is running the server edition of the Symantec software. The problem is, is that when I go to install the program on our NT server, it starts then stops and I get a message box saying that the install shield was interrupted and setup cannot continue. I have tried everything I can think of. Here is a website that gives more detail and shows the things I have done to correct this problem. Thanks for all help!!! The computer is updated fully with service back 6a and internet explorer browser version 6.0

same here, all the docs on the symantec knowledge base don't fix it, and I've followed other random documents I've found on the web and they haven't worked either.
I have a problem removing the older version, so had to rip the bugger out the registry and remove all files manually, there noservices running and can't see any sign of it anywhere. I've even run the NoNAV script to remove files that may be hidden somewhere random but still no joy.
This box is a 2k box tho.

Has anyone found a cure for this? Symantec still doesn't have a clue. Yes I have gone through all the steps in the above referenced link...

Are you running Terminal Server in application mode?

If so, don't forget "change user /install

Through experience I have found the majority of these problems to be resolved by the following steps that are indeed covered in the Symantec document

- deleting the contents of the Installshield/Driver folder
- searching for MSI files that refer to Norton Antivirus or Symantec Antivirus in the c:\winnt\Installer folder (hidden folder, system folder) and deleting them
- DCOM settings, very important... no correct DCOM settings, no go. The guidelines in the doc have fixed the misery for me a ton of times.

Symantec also has a utility called testsec that will check DCOM and file/registry permissions for you. I unfortunately no longer have a copy... maybe someone here has a copy they are willing to share, or preferably get it from Symantec if you have active support.

I'm trying to do a local install. Again, I've been through everything in symantec's doc about this problem, nothing helps.

Does the install generate a logfile at all? If so, can you post it?

Also, are you able to execute ISSCRIPT.MSI without any error messages?

Have you also checked the values under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders ?
(make sure that these values are correct)

And well... maybe it's time to upgrade to Windows 2003 (I have had to many flunky problems with Windows NT that I never ran into with post winnt OS's :-( )
