Following a manual uninstall of SAV 9 following Symantec guidelines (since i didnt know uninstall password) i keep get an annoying alert 'Please wait while windows configures Symantec Anti Virus'. This alert message then prompts for the CD-ROM installation disk. When i hit cancel, it just keeps recurring,

if anyone knows the fix, please let me know,
thanks in advance!

its ok i have found the solution - windows installer clean up utility

Hi Waylander.

I was reading through some Norton problems in the Forums and came across yours, which you seem to have sorted out. I have a problem which is driving me crazy. Symantec support are a waste of time. I have several automated messages asking if their reply has been useful. As there has been no reply to any of the requests for assistance, except the automated message, this is worse than useless.

Problem. While trying to install Internet security 2007, I was asked to remove existing Symantec products, and downloaded the tool to do this..

After running the tool I was left with a message that Symantec Winfax Pro had to be removed by hand. As I have never loaded Winfax on my computer this looked difficult.

Add/remove programmes does not list it.

Searches for Winfax, win and finally wfx found only one file,
wfx.dll in the Windows XP system which is a Winfax type file. It is a protected file, and is present in XP op system as far as I can determine. A search for .wfx files found a few, but none seem to be associated with Winfax.

There is a very small chance that my computer may have been used by someone during one of my many spells away from the office, but it is a remote chance only, and why would they want to load and carefully remove Winfax? I do not think any of us have it on ofice computers, or use it at home.

Have you any idea how it might be possible to remove a file or a reference to Winfax which is being detected by the removal tool, and blocking the installation of Internet Security, but seems invisible to detection.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Let me know if you are still having a problem with this. I got a utility from Symantec that removes all components of NAV.

It's called NoNAV
