Help... I need some direction and insight with converting a sybase .db file from an old sharkware database that was hosted on a Novell Sybase SQL Anywhere network server v.5.5.04. I'd like to be able to view the table information of some 27,000 contacts in either a comma deleminated flat file, dbase file or access database to view the tables. Heck even if I could port it over to MySql or MS Access, I could at least write some php code to view the records. My db knowledge is limited to Linux MySql, Access, Paradox and some Oracle. Unfortunately I don't understand how sybase works, I have extensive knowledge in networking and Linux scripting not a DBA type stuff.
Right now I have a customer that I've been supporting on sharkware for the past 8 years (since sharkware 3.0 and now on 4.0) and now the system needs replacing but we want to view the existing data for future lookups on one or two workstations while they transition to a new CRM/Mailware application. They just need the basic customer details; name, address, phone, email and all the history notes. I've tried multiple times to get the system to reinstall but the software has always been a pain for years no matter what OS you're running. I've defiantly wasted over 50 hours trying to get the software to work again on windows 2000 server, 2003 server, new novell servers and peer-to-peer all to no avail. So now I'm left up to trying to convert the data. The customer paid quite a bit of money in the past to convert the data in the past into Act but Act didn't display all of the information. Unfortunately they continue to enter information into sharkware on the one working workstation so new data is constantly being added. As I stated, I'd really appreciate any information that you guys can provide me with so I can interpret and convert the data so that it can be read from one or two workstations. With much gratitude,
