We are attempting to backup sybase databases on Win2k servers. Userid created by Sybase DBA for backup has full rights to database, and have configured the networker client to use nsrsyb.bat. SYBASE variable in .bat set to look at the directory where sybase is installed.

When we run a test job to backup one of these clients, we receive the following error:

nsrexec: Cannot authenticate user: A required privilege is not held by the client.

Is this coming from sybase or from networker ? We've followed the documentation that comes with Networker. We can perform a regular windows file backup, where saveset=all.

I'm not sure it is returned by the BSmodule. It looks like an error I've already met with the Exchange module. I would say the Networker client is not allowed to launch the batch file.

Try either to :

Specify a Remote User/Password in the Remote Acces tab of the client (with high privileges)

Run the Networker Remote Exec service with a specific account (not the default system one).

Hope this helps.

Make sure that you have a Windows account on the client
with the same username/pwd as the sybase account. This one
must also be a member of the Backup Operators group.

Also ensure that the user must not change the password with
with the first login.

ok, here's what I tried:

(1) use a local windows account with local admin rights to the box, to run the remote exec service for networker

(2) created a local windows account, sa, with same password as the sa account as sybase account. windows sa account part of local admin group

Ran job, job failed with error "nsrexec: cannot authenticate user: required privilege is not held by the client"

Restarting the service using the windows sa account instead, same error

Set service to use local service account, instead, job called nsrsyb.bat file, but timed out ("has been inactive for 33 minutes, being abandoned by nsrexec"). this error was preceded by stepping through each line of the nsrsyb.bat file.

I'm viewing this through the emails generated, or through the gui. Which log file on the sybase windows host would have the full log, step-by-step ?

There should be a logfile in the applogs directory on the
NW client.

Do not forget that the account must be able to run backups.
However it also must log on to the database to receive the data.
