We have SX2000 Light phone system and I got a request to test the System Fail Transfer Unit.
I don't have experience to test it. I found in a manual and I've got the pin assignment of this unit. And then checked the cabling is correct.

So, how can I test the SFT unit is working properly? Do I need to power down the per. cab. to test it?

Any help would be highly appreciated.
Please Help!

Thanks for your information!
However, there are 5 x SFT units. Is it possible to test it one by one ?

Kelvin

Yes you can by removing the power cable this will drop the relays and put the trunks into failover

@Supernova99
Thank you for your reply.
I didnt see a power cable on the unit.
Do you mean removing the RJ11 cable on J1?
Thanks.

Kelvin

Supernova meant for you to remove power from the Per-Node thus simulating a Power Failure and initiating a Power Fail Transfer.

Nothing short of removing the power from the per node will properly test the unit.

I'm curious though. Do you actually have analog trunks on the 2K. If not, I think you're wasting your time.

@kwbMitel
There are around 30 analog trunks. I will try this way.

Thanks for all your response!

Yes you can just remove the RJ 11 cable this will simulate a per cab failure.
If you remove the power from the individual per cab the whole system will go 'CRITICAL' which will drop all SFT units to failover. Which I think you were trying to avoid.

@Supernova99
Thank you for your advise.
I haven't thought about the critical alarm.....

Kelvin

@ Supernova - The system will only go critical if the thresholds are reached. Ive had single cabinets fail without taking the system down.

Additionally, removing the rj11 only proves what will happen IF the relays on the per node drop. It does not prove the relays on the per node themselves.

@ kwbmitel
It all depends on how you want to test the SFT units I suppose.
If the system went 'CRITICAL' then all SFT units will drop their relays and will affect every extn that has been set as a failover.
Pulling the RJ11 will simulate a failure to test that trunks are connected to extns. (max 6 extns affected)
If you only have 1 per cab then powering this down will most certainly create a 'CRITICAL' alarm as there will only be 1 SFT zone. The default thresholds will be 100% unavailable so will make the system 'CRITICAL' and hence drop all the SFT relays.

Yes 1 per node would cause a Critical but this site has 5 SFT's so I think I'm safe to assume >= 5 pernodes. Even if the units are somehow all connected to 1 Pernode we're talking 30 stations/trunks not 6 which is the entire trunk compliment and essentially a system down. I say why not test fully and get it over with.

Supernova99, kwbMitel
Both of you provided me a very useful information.
Thanks again for your help.

@ mitelchi - Don't mind us nit picking with each other. That's how we learn to help you better. I have the utmost respect for Supernova as it is very rare that we disagree on anything. There is always more than 1 way to do something. How you proceed is ultimately up to you.

Nice one Mitelchi
Glad to help
