I am trying to free up a partially used block of numbers in an attempt to save the business a few bucks. Where possible, I am slowly freeing up some numbers and assigning other numbers. But I am running to some problems:

At the SX2000 command line, I type "loc all free dn 2895 to 2905". This is the result:
2895 - 2897
2899 - 2905
Which leads me to believe DN 2898 is in use, but when I look in Multiline Set Assignment and Single Line Set Assignment, the number is not assigned. When I dial 2898, I wait about 10 seconds and I get a fast busy and "Invalid" appears on my display. There is no voice mail box for 2898.

Any ideas where 2898 is "assigned" or where it might be?

The delay leads me to believe that there is a longer sequence of digits starting with 2898.

If 2898 existed I would use Locate Number 2898 insead of searching specific forms.

I do not expect this to work for you however as I suspect there could be as many as 7 digits in the DN.

Other places to look might be:

System Speedcall
Hunt Groups
ACD Paths
ARS Digits dialed
Ring groups (personal and standard)

There are more forms but those are the most likely in my book.

System Speedcall it was, 28989 - set up to call offsite AND to defeat toll restrictions. A little something I inherited.

Thanks KWB.

Try the digit trace command: DGT TR 2898
This may give a better clue where to look

I agree with kwbMitel - the delay before fast busy tells me the digit string is valid, but the machine is looking for more digits.

Other less obvious places to look:
Associated directory number assignment (ASS)
Call reroute assignment form (CAL R AS)
Path assignment form )PA)
Miscellaneous assignment form (MI)
Trunk service assignment (TRU S)
Remote Directory Number assignment (REM D)
Feature Access Code assignment (FE)
