I have an alarm on an sx2000 which when i do a show fault alarm points to cabinet 1 Panel Real Time Clock. Has anbody come across this before ?

To answer your question, no I haven't. However, I believe the RTC is built in to the main control card (MC215) (aka MC-III)

I'd try an activity switch first but do it from the keyboard of the maintenance console.... not from the front panel pushbuttons. If you do it from the keyboard the machine will warn you if it's going to crash ("WARNING Service Degradation Will Result") - if you get that response, then don't do it. If Plane A (slot 2) is active, the command is ACT SW 1 1 7. If Plane B is active the command is ACT SW 1 1 2. Use these commands to switch activity between the controllers.

Never attempt to use the above commands twice in succession without waiting (I recommend 15 minutes).

If this doesn't fix it, report back and we'll try to steer you off in some other direction ;-)

Note well: If there are ethernet cables plugged in to the front of your main controller cards, then they are not directly interchangeable. There is addressing info on the card allowing it to communicate with OpsMan. If that's an issue for you then again report back and I'll walk you through it.
