Hey all, I was donated a pile of bays and cards etc. On my controller, I have 2 CIM ports. I am using the ASU for the trunks.

In the stack of cards I have a Mitel PRI Card (9109-615-001) with a Mitel Copper Interface Module (CIM) (9180-510-010) daughter board on it.

Can I use this this card to connect the controller to the bay? Will the PRI daughter board cause an issue? As it is a daughter board, should i remove it?

If memory serves me, programming the controller to use the CIM and define a bay is pretty simple? (I'll check out the tech pdf), but if you can think of any gotchyas that would be good to know

This is just for fun, so no customer etc involved.

PS: If you need some DNICs or ONS let me know, i've got several.

Thanks!

Is your main controller an ICP or ELx type?

The PRI becomes a bay unto itself when connected. When connected in a peripheral bay (ICP or ELx), it must be connected via the CIM daughter board to a CIM on the main controller.

If the main controller is an ELx type. You can power the PRI directly in slot 10 or 11 but you would probably need to change the dip switches that are located near the edge connector. These Dip switches determine whether the PRI controller communicates via the backplane or the CIM module.

Hi, the controller is ICP, and yes its card that goes into a peripheral cabinet.

I see the 2 dip switches will check the guide for settings.

Sorry, I'm a bit confused about the PRI stuff. I don't need nor have PRIs here. I just want to be able to connect the controller to the peripheral bay to program a couple dnics and ons cards.

Thanks!

Ah, now I understand your question. No the Pri card cannot be used to connect a peripheral bay. The CIM module might come in handy if you have a BCCIII without one. To connect the Peripheral bay you require a BCCIII with a CIM module or a peripheral control card.

Ok thanks, as Murphy's law has it, I only have a plain BCC (no III).

There is another wav of stuff coming my way after they do their final upgrade so I'll be sure to keep an eye out for the BCCIII

Thanks again!!

Jim

Or a peripheral control card.

I recommend the PIMCC with a BCCII. I have not had any problems with this configuration but have had all kind of weird stuff happen with a BCCIII.

Hi Kwb, it appears I do have a peripheral interface module (PN# 9109-616-001-NA).

I took a look at our bay 1 at work here, and low and behold it has the same card in the slot beside the power supply and the BCC card is 9109-017-001.

When I google the PIM card's number, it shows up that it only works on EL and ELx machines. But our mitel at the shop is an SX-200-ICP (Same as I've got).

What do you think? I might be able to pull this one off?

Thanks!

I think it is definitely worth a try.

Keep in mind the PIM pre-dates the ICP and the documentation might not be entirely accurate on the subject.

Ok sounds good, i've got 5 bays, so if I blow something up i'll have some spare parts :)

Heya Kwb, ok gave it a shot. and ran into some unexpected things.

Bay 1 is a whole IP Card, so i went to form 53, programed bay 2 to be on CIM 1 of the controller.

Went into form 1 and made bay 2 slot 1 as a DNIC. (I think mitel called digital).

Powered the bay on and both alarm LEDs come on the bay card and on the CIM car.

So, a couple observations, I recall in another post that the 3 serial port bay cabinets are newer.

I it Ok to use bay 2 for the DNIC's? I notice on the work machine we have bay 1, 4, 7.

And after a bit of reading, should I use a cross over cat 5 cable - is that correct?

Thanks again for your help!!

Cross over cable required

ELx Cabinet required (I think) J10 and J11 DB9 ports on back

If you can get the bay to communicate, all card types will work.

Heya, ok I just got another bay, and this one has a BCCIII (PN# 9109-117-001) c/w an on board CIM (PN#9180-510-010-NA)

So this should be the beast i need. I will test the existing setup with a x over cable (thanks for confirming that), but if it doesn't work then I drop this card in.

Back to defining bays, in form 53, is it ok to use bay 2 as cabinet? (Bay 1 is defined as an IP Bay.)

I'll also check those ports too.

Thanks again!

WHOOO HOOO! It works!! I had to move it from bay2 to bay3 in frm 53 took it a few minutes to "warm up" but she's working like a son of a gun!!

Thanks a ton for you help!! Day by getting a bit smarter with the help of good people!!!

Jim

Glad to hear it.

one word of warning, as you seem to be new to peripheral bays.

If/When you find yourself upgrading the system beprepared to allow the BCCIII a minimum of 25 minutes to upgrade before doing anything. If nothing is working in the Bay after 45 minutes then be prepared to have to re-flash the BCCIII manually. As someone mentioned earlier BCCIII's can be a pain. I can only guess at what problems they solved but they were definitely one of Mitel's weaker products.

Hi, yeah this is the first time i've ever "programmed" one. Definitely a buzz :). Heading to yours and jonmyk reservations about the BCCIII, I lived the on the edge and put back in the Single CIM and plain BCC card. Waited it out and sure enough it came to life so I'll put that III in its box and keep it in case work or someone needs it. My g/f is gonna hate me, fones will be everywhere haha.

Oh, one thing tho, bay assignments. How does that work? Was it just because i wasn't patient enough when i had perf cab programed as bay 2, or is there some sort of format EG Bay 1 = IP, Bay 2 = something else Bay 3 = Perf cab etc.

Thanks!
