I am getting nothing out of the printer port on a new icp install. Can I use the peripheral (EL) cabinet printer port, or is that voided when you use the icp as the controller?

You have three choices;
1) The system printer port on the controller (not the Peripheral Bay), or
2) You can program up a Dataset and use that, or
3) You can define an IP printer port

All this info can be found in the Tech Handbook which should have been packed in the box with your new 200ICP.

For the System printer port on the front of the ICP controller, use form 34 (directed I/O)

For either choice 2 or 3 You'll use form 11 (Data Circuit Descriptor) and form 12 (Dataset Assignment) and form 34 (directed I/O)

The 3rd method is what we use. It's handy because (assuming you have IP connectivity) you can telnet in to a remote site and get your formprints or SMDR printouts, etc without having to be physically there.

I've got all programming in there. When I set up a laptop to the icp printer port using hyperterminal and set a wake-up call (printout is enabled) I get nothing. Assuming my port is bad, can I do a database back-up, then upload to new icp, and is a new moss sheet required?

Lets assume for the moment that the port is not bad.

More likely you need a crossover cable. Your Laptop looks like a DTE device and a printer is a DCE device.
Also since it's a serial device you may need some handshaking or flow control leads (RTS/CTS/DTR) strapped high. However, I don't know for sure because I've never tried to print directly to a laptop from the printer port of the ICP. If you have a breakout box handy, now would be the time to use it.

you can connect a pc directly to the printer port with a straight thru 9 pin cable using hyperterminal or Procomm and should print out if speed, parity etc is matched as seen in maintanance under device printer. This should prove your port out.

Thank You Pandabear1, I have a straight through cable with hyperterminal @ 300,8,n,1. 9 pin straight through from printer port on icp to laptop. Set baud rate in maint for 300, set wake-up call, nothing. (Auto wake-up print enabled)

Thanks for the followup pandabear1. I've never used the bulkhead printer connector since the days of the 2K-SG and wrongfully assumed it was wired as a DTE device. Still I doubt his printer port is defective on a brand new box. Most likely a configuration or cabling issue.

I concer, I normally do a cde print option to test the printer as I can do that remotely, print form 1 or 2.
Go to form 34 and set ext num to "printer port" and printout to "cde data print", this is the most basic, then go to form 32 and do a "print" on form 1, I would have used something higher than 300 bps, no less than 1200.
