Hi

Unsure if this is in the right section ..... here goes anyway.
I have been promoted at work and have been asked to complete a SWOT analysis - not of the company as a whole but just of our service department.
We are a communications company who deliver complete solutions through mobiles / data / telehone systems / lines etc.

I have never done anything like this before, so far I have documented some basic things which I have noticed - competitiveness in the office, knowledge of employess - both good and bad in certain areas, large workloads and lack of depth in certain areas.

Can anyone advise of anything else, what should I be looking for. If im been honest I arent the most creative so am struggling to identify anything apart from the basics.

Any advise would be appreciated.

Thanks

James

Have to consider what SWOT is
Strengths
Weakness
Opportunitiy
Threats

SW are internal to your firm or group while OT our external forces. Keep in mind that a S can also be a T. So, your competitiveness in the office while can be a strentgh, can also be a weekness (what keeps those competitive people in your group?)

piggy-backing on North323's insight. I would consider external forces any thing outside of the Service Department itself. Management, other departments like IT, HR, etc. Along with external forces like location, customers, government, competitors, etc.

Also what is the goal and objectives? SWOT is an analysis tool. Therefore there is probably and reason (goal and objectives) for the company asking you to preform the analysis. This will drive the context of the SWOT analysis which may help narrow the scope of your research.
