This is a little bit different than the other cutover threads on here. We are switching from one service provider to another and have a total of 6 telephone lines. Mediacom stated it could be 2-3 weeks worth of changeover to there service from the current one. They are obviously hiring a contractor to come in and do the switch for them. What do they all actually have to do, if it can be summed up? Are we gogin to be without all 6 lines for that duration? I would assume they will change over one line at a time allowing us to use the others but is that standard practice?

Have never been a part of a complete cutover like this and am hesitant a bit. If it wasnt going to save us about $200 a month, Im not sure how much I would be backing this decision.... Any advise/explanations would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks all.

My guess is the 2-3 weeks is for sign offs on legal documents etc. and running any new wiring in preparation for the cut. The actual change over should only take a few minutes if you include testing too.
Are you talking 6 POTS lines or 6 T-1/PRI circuits? If you are talking circuits, testing will be a little longer. At one location I worked, I switched over 8 LD PRI's and 4 Local PRI's with 800 DID numbers in 1 hr and 45 minutes, however the company I used took 8 weeks to get fiber and hardware in to the building and get docs signed etc. All very smooth.

Sorry, 6 POTS lines. I was thinking that it shouldnt take too long for the actual change over but was worried when they gave that time frame. So, basically I would schedule a disconnect from the current subscriber about 2-3 weeks before the new lines are to be switched over..... Thanks for showing me the behind the scenes time frame.

I would talk with the company you are going to, you may not have to put in a disco with your current provider, the new company may take care of it all. If you put in a disco order and it happens before the cut, you might lose all rights to the numbers.

Good call. Thanks for all the assistance!
