Switching ports

Colleagues,
Since the response to my previous Q. re. web apps security was "it's not in the code" (thank you again, StrongM!), here's the next Q., but I need to explain something 1st:
We use internal I-net (VPN, no outside access), and the exchange goes through port 80.
Our Cyber-security Dept. tells us this port is not secure, and demands us to switch to the secure one (apparently - port 443).
We tried to find it in IIS settings - couldn't.
And (finally!) the question is: where/how we can switch our website from using port 80 to using port 443?
(If it sounds like child's blabbering - that's due to my ignorance in these things: I have never been a Sys Admin, only an application programmer/developer...)

TIA!

Regards,

Ilya

Port 80 = HTTP
Port 443 = HTTPS

Your webserver ought to have options to bind a site to one or both these ports. How i=one does that differs depending on which webserver you are using. But there is more to it than that. You'll start needing certificates, for example. Again, this is NOT a coding issue, this is something that should be managed by whoever is responsible for your webserver. If that is you, then you may have some reading to do ...

Thank you!
It looks like we need to find something like "IIS Admin Guide"! :)

P.S. My name is spelled "I L Y A" (no "S" at the end) - non taken! ;-)

Ilya

>no "S" at the end

Yeah, a typo I'm afraid. Sorry.

>ome reading to do
Here's a possible starting point

Thank you, StrongM! [thanks2]
I watched this video tutorial - might be quite helpful! (Gotta watch it again and make it into a DOC.)
One thing, though: the sound cut off somewhere in the middle... but I'll find the way around that (I hope).

Regards,

Ilya
