Switching Pictures in a Layer

Can someone point me in the right direction? I want to have one layer on my page and by clicking on text I would like the appropriate picture to show up in that layer.

For example the page load and nothing is in the layer. I click on the text Ball and a ball picture shows up. I click on the text triangle and a triangle picture show up removing the ball picture.

I think you would get better answers if you posted this in the javascript forum, as I think you will need to use Javascript to achieve this.

I am aware of the standard swap image between two images like a roll over or a drop down. I am wanting to end up switching multiple images in the same layer.

Good idea to post this in the javascript section. I'll do that now.
