Recently our company came upon a bunch of MLX-10 phones for our merlin system, and we'd like to phase out our old single line 8102 phones. I shuffled the cables from the 008 switch over to the 012, and the phones in question can dial out without problems, but their messaging lights don't come on, and they don't ring.

How can I fix this problem?

Thanks,

Joe

If I understand it, you put the MLX phone onto the 012 card, which is an analog card. MLX phones work off MLX cards, 008 MLX, 412 MLX, or 016 MLX (with the right version of software)

Oops! I misread the labels when checking the cards.

I used to have the analog phones setup on the 012 card the way they should, and then we came upon the new MLX phones, so i switched the cables from the 012 to the 008 and put the new MLX phones where the analogs were.

In any case - how can I get the phones to ring and the VM light to kick on when VM arrives?

MLX phones use four wires, ananol use two, my guess is that your cabling is only supporting the single pair. The 4 inside conductors are used for the MLX sets. You should plug one directly into an MLX port to see that it works off the Legend just to verify the card is good. If so trace out your wiring and you'll be in business.
