Switching AT&T to Cable: Will CC Still Process OK? 1

I am considering switching our AT & T service to Comcast cable telephone. Will I need to have tech support for Micros to make any sort of changes to my POS system, or will I not even notice that the phone carrier switched?

Also, could someone teach me how to test to see if my back up dial-up credit card is working? We process over the internet. It would be nice to run a test just in case internet goes down.

Yes, even better in my opinion.

Log into EDC

Configure - processors - select the processor you are currently using from the processor list. - Edit processor - uncheck SSL.

Run a preauthorization for 1.5 on a card to see if the dial out modem is working.

recheck - SSL

cheers,
Coorsman

LOL, sometimes I even make the mistake of thinking this is an ALL Aloha, ALL the time forum. Unless I misunderstood the question, this was for a Micro system, and again, unless I am mistaken, you just got instructions from the very Aloha-capable coorsman about how to change it on an ALoha system.

Micros is a pretty closed architecture, so even with general questions, I answer very cautiously.

You probably won't need them to do anything, they probably won't know, provided you're going from phone line to just another phone line. If you're switching from phone to Internet, then yeah, you probably will need your dealer to change the settings. The information on the banking end of your configuration *usually* doesn't change, but how the information that is sent to the bank *does*.

I find it strange that an internet provider change would have adverse affects on any system. Unless big brother is tracking IP's? Is that the case with your/any POS? With that aside, (to test CC) before or after a shift, simply turn off/unplug the modem and run your own card for like $.50 and see what happens, first. Then post back what happen.

Umm, sorry, I'm a little confused and still need some guidance. First, yes this for a Micros 3700. We are now totally on cable for internet, TV and phone.

A whole bunch has happened since the last post but here's what I need to know: We are getting a new USR 5686G Fax Modem because it seems our old one is fried. The fax modem is used as the BACK-UP method of credit card processing in case the internet goes down, so right now I have no back-up. Yikes! How do I test my back-up processing once I install the new modem? Obviously I will need to keep Micros up and running, as well as the fax modem to test it. I suppose I could shut down the cable modem but I am always afraid to mess with that for fear something will get screwed up. Can I change a Micros setting or configuration to run the test? I couldn't really find that EDC thing that Coorsman was talking about earlier, so yeah, maybe he was giving me Aloha instructions?

Yes, Coorsman was giving you ALoha instructions. If your Micros system has automatic fail over in terms of your primary internet connection going down, I personally do not think unplugging the modem for 3 minutes would be a problem, but I am not overly familiar with Mircos to say 100%.
