Hi All
I am an experienced database applications developer in SQL Server and would like to do the same with Oracle. Can anyone suggest any good training books that would help me make the transition. From what I understand PL/SQL is the equivalent of TSQL? I am not really interested in database management more database development.

I look forward to your suggestions.
Thanks

I find Steven Feuerstein's books to be well-written and fairly easy to follow.

The O'reilly book "Oracle PL/SQL Language Pocket Reference" is where I started. Very short, but probably sufficient if you're already familiar with all the concepts.

Hi,
Just be aware of the very different architecture and methodology used by Oracle ( Like 2-phase commits and the non-blocking nature of read and write coexistance) - Using priciples developed for optimal SqlServer performance could be ( and in many cases, will be) just the wrong thing for Oracle.

Note: Even the vocabulary is different enough to cause initial confusion about what a database is [wink]

A good book by someone like Kevin Loney on the architecture
will really help.
