We have a s8300 with g700 CM 3.1

Issue: We need MSP and other features turned on in our switch but our Avaya BP cannot dial in to administer the changes via the modem connection.

They are RAS into our server and can connect to the modem, however once connected they cannot see the switches.

I have done a handshake test with the modems each passed and I have reset both modems as well.

Question: Will I need to reboot the switch in order to clear the modems or are there any other settings or testing I can do to troubleshoot the issue?

Thank you!

PBX1131,

Looks like your Business Partner has real issues.

For the most part, ONLY AVAYA, can enable MSP's, despite what your BP may be telling you. If you have AVAYA Maint., then there is some paperwork to be filled out by you, and sent to AVAYA, and AVAYA will turn on your MSP's. Your Business Partner most likely CANNOT turn on MSP's.

If your BP has already had AVAYA enable the MSP's, and they are only trying to install a new license file, that can be done over the modem, download via the web page, and install it, it's not rocket science :)

Just thought of something for you, Microsoft put out a Windows update, which basiclly broke RAS. If they have this update, they need another patch to fix it, or else RAS does not work properly. On several computers I have used, you need to RAS in TWICE, the first time does not connect properly, the SECOND time is the charm. Have them see if they can dial into ANYONES S-Series server.

Enabling MSPs will only cost $0.01, cover all the papers (new SAP #) once generated by your BP, you can get it via email from them and you can install it by yourself via web interface of the server.

Windows updates labelled as KB911280, KB916281 and KB917953
prohibit PPP.They need to be removed.

I rebooted both active and stand by servers, once eback on-line I was able to successfully RAS into our servers.

Thanks all 4 your direction and/help
