Hi everyone,

I have a bit of a mental block about this:

What should you use as the default gateway for a switch such as a 2960? does it really matter? is it neceesary anyway?

Currently i use the VLAN1 interface of my main 3560 multilayer switch (eg 10.1.0.10) , or the VLAN100 (which is the management VLAN but not universally so). it doesn't seem to make any difference.

I'm all confused, can you shed any light on this for me please?

MCP,CCA,CCNA,CCNP,Net+.

It has to be the router interface address of the switches management address space , if switch is in vlan 1 172.28.0.1 and the router interface is 172.28.0.254 then your default gateway is the .254 address . This is strictly for manageing the switch and for being able to telnet to that switch from outside that address space.
