I wish to use a (slave) drive for a total back-up. Since I will perform this task once a week for five minutes, there is no need to have the drive spinning the rest of the week. I would like to switch all power except ground.

Is my computer gonna be happy with this?

Is this a PC or a server? Most PC O/S's have a power-saving option that spins down HD's when they're not used for a certain period of time.

If this is a server, then my comment would be...who cares about the power the HD is using?
