I have a 308EC with a bad power supply. I won't go into detail as how it went bad, because you guys would think I was a total dweeb.

I have a 206 (and 206E) with a good power supply.

Can I swap the power supplies? They seem to have the same grey plug, the same green ground wire, and the same plug for the carrier.

Thanks for your time,
Randy

Hi Randy,
I am fairly certian that the supplies are different. They may have the same connector inside but I think the 308EC has higher current demands. Can you fix the supply?
-Chris

They have to be able to plug into the same back plane, so they have to have the same connector at that point. The ground would have the same place to connect because of the back plane needs the ground in the same place. The back plane I am sure can take the connections, but the 308 would have different power needs, I would think since it has different components working within it. I would not try switching the power supplies. Get a new 308.

why not give it a try ?

what do you have to lose ?

if it fits physically and the connectors match up go for it

I doubt you will hurt the power supply and the 308 is worthless as is

(and be sure to post back and let us know how / if it works )

I got a new thermistor, diode, and fuse, so I may try repairing the power supply just for kicks, but before going through I was curious about the swap.

You are correct, in that some of the compenents are different. This leads me to try the repair first.

I don't want to try not knowing that it has worked for someone else, at this point I will look into repairing it first.

I believe that the 308 is still worth something knowing that I can:
A) Repair the power supply for under $10
B) Purchase a refurbished power suply for under $100
C) At this point, if the 308 still had troubles, I would try swapping power supplies.

Thanks everyone for your time.

Hey Randini,
That's the spirit! And you're using your noodle too!
Happy Holidays.

Well, in that case, if you are adventurous, go for it. I can not say I have not let the smoke out of a few things in the last decade myself, but I learned from them all. As long as the lesson isn't too expensive, give it a shot. It isn't like I haven't cut the speaker leads on an ext and wired it to an overhead horn before, or even to a BGM input, lol.

have fun with it anyway. Happy holidays and good luck.
