Greetings,
I have a ML350 G3 with a Smart Array 5312 with 64MB of ram hosting a RAID 5 array. I have a 5302 with 128MB of ram that is sitting on a shelf doing nothing. I was wondering if I was to swap the two cards would the server recognize the new card with out a problem.

Thanks,
Ben

Are you sure about RAM size on 5312?

According to my Compaq guide "The Smart 5312 is basically a PCI-X version of the Smart 5302. The 5312, however, does not support the ADAM module (required for RAID ADG) and cannot be upgraded to four ports or with a SAN module." It also says both are 128Mb. But I know there were various models of 5302 with different memory sizes so no reason the 5312 should be any different despite what the books say.

However in answer to your question there should be no problem at all swapping the cards over. The new card will pick up the config from the drives.
Same with most of the SMART controllers.

Neill,
Yes I doubled checked the unit and sure enough it has 64MB I think the earliest versions of the 5312 had 64MB, but just incase I am getting the unit swapped for a warranty part. Maybe I will get lucky and they will send me one with 128MB. :)
I was pretty sure that I could swap them but I just wanted to make sure. Thanks for your response.
