The Emulex LP8000 HBA died in one of our Sun hosts. I will call this system SunhostA. I pulled a working Emulex HBA from another system (SunhostB) that no longer needed access to the SAN and put it in SunhostA. Now I can't see the disks that were assigned to the SunhostA storage group. I have tried removing and readding the LUNs to the SunhostA storage group several times and have done several reconfiguration reboots of SunhostA. I just noticed in Navisphere that the storage group for SunhostB still exists but there are no LUNs in it. The LUNs from SunhostB were reassigned to other storage groups some time ago. SunhostA is listed under as a host under the SunhostB storage group. Is a storage group or anything else tied to an HBA? Can I simply move an HBA from one host to another or do I need to do something else (possibly on the switch). Is there an easy fix for this. I am working with EMC on this but am not making any progress.

this is not too difficult...

1. Erase the HBA from the hba list with navicli
(navicli -h SPA-IP hba ... something like that, I don't remember the command, issue navicli -h for help)
2. Put the HBA in the host A
3. Rezone as necessary (switches)
4. retstart navisphere Agent in host A
5. WWN should be now registered as host A and not as host B (since you desregister with navicli)
6. Select Tools -> Failover setup wizard -> etc. depending whether you are using PowerPath or not.
7. Get host A out of storage group, apply
8. Get host A in again of storage group, apply.

you must be done.

You can desregister the WWN from the "Connectivity Status" in the navisphere gui. Press <ctrl><shift><F12> enter the password and you will get "engineering mode", the connectivity status will have 1 more buttom called "desregister", select the WWN and hit "desregister".

Cheers.
