Swap SmartArray 3200 for embedded SA 5i?

We've got a Compaq DL380 G2, with a built-in Smart Array 5i controller, operating fine. We want to put a SmartArray 3200 into the server, and connect the existing drives to that. I THINK it should be OK, and should recognize the array fine. Anybody have any experience with this?

tried this but couldnt get it to work
assume it was a termination issue

luckily i had a spare 380 g3 with split plane avail - so use this instead - this is similar in that it has a 5i and a 5300 installed - you dont see the 5i until it's terminated
