Anyone use Swap Manager 3 with windows 2000?

I am using two DRW113ATA Startech removable hd drawers in conjunction with Seagate Barracuda 7200 80gb U100 hard drives.

The swap manager software works fine if we boot up the PCs with the caddies/hard drives already installed and locked -we can swap/add in as much as we like.

The problem occurs when I boot the PCs up WITHOUT the caddies/hard drives installed and then add them in once Windows is loaded. Although swap manager recognies the drive and I can swap it in, I then get the "new hardware found" dialog box come up and then it asks for a reboot before the hardware can be recognised correctly. Although I can see the drive in Explorer, if I try and double click it I get "E: is not accessible". I'm forced to reboot to access the drive.

I'm wondering if this is the correct behaviour i.e. the hard drive has to be locked in at bootup to swap in/out correctly? If so, is it a limitation imposed by Windows 2000 or the hardware itself? It seems a bit self defeating if we can't simply add the drives in without having to reboot!
