On a linux HMC (V3R3.5), I'm looking for a way to get the svcagent status via command line, if possible. User "hscroot" does not have command line access to "/usr/svcagent/bin/sa_status", but the output from "sa_status" shows up in the websm gui when logged in as "hscroot". Any ideas?

Thanks.

press ctrl+alt+backspace to quit the xwindow. you will get the login prompt .

After speaking with IBM, there is apparently no way to check the status of the svcagent processes (CM, ESS, ODS) via command line on the HMC. At least not with the commands available to the default "hscroot".

Bummer.

no there's not. however you can call IBM and request a PE passcode. then you can log into the commandline as the hscpe user (you have to create that user), input the pe passcode and get a more useful shell.

Is there a reason you need to check the agent at the command line?

Trying to setup various monitors/probes for the health of the HMC itself.

ah, well there's not much you need to monitor there. Nothing much should be happening to the hmc other than sitting there waiting for you to do something to the lpars.

a basic ping test will tell you if it's running and if you can log in and list the lpars, you know it's talking to the CEC.

That should be about all you need to know it's functional.

Since it's linux it's not going to log most of the stuff that you'd monitor on aix. There's a messages file in /var/log you could have it email you every day, but other than that, it's pretty much a black box.
