I work with a school district that has an 8300. They do not have any separate paging or bell system and they are trying to figure out if the phones can be utilized in any way to trigger a lockdown. They want every phone to have a button programmed to call all phones with a special ring that will trigger a lockdown protocol. Does anyone have an idea of what and how we could accomplish this? I thought of creating a virtual extension that would ring on all phones with a distinctive ring but can't figure out how to do that, if it is even possible.

Another thought was to do an all page but someone would have to say something and they didn't want intruder to pick up on the notification. That may be the only option but I was hoping for something different. Any ideas?

Thanks.

Unfortunately extension ring tone is for the phone and not by individual button. Your idea about a virtual on every phone may be the only way, however it will not give you a distinctive ring tone. There is an option that may help. You could make the phone ring without using a line key, so they will have an audible ring but no buttons will flash. The large LED will flash. There is a button number 0. You can only program it using the MOC mode. It does not show up in the MAT program. If you place the virtual under button 0 it will ring and flash the large LED but no line key. I am not sure if this helps you.
EX: extension 2000 placing virtual number 3000 on button 0
9000>2000,00>3000 EXE

Thanks Belevedere. At this point I am willing to try anything so I will give your idea a try. Now if I can only figure out how to make the phone dance I would be a hero.

I appreciate your help very much!

I think there is a way where you can create a situation where a call to an extension that is in night service and so makes the phones ring on the ANS key. But it is a while since I did it so I would have to have a play to confirm, unless Belvedere knows this off the top of his head.

I have another suggestion. It will require a spare analog trunk port and a spare analog station port. Loop the station to the trunk. When you call the station the trunk will ring and you can set it up for a distinctive ring tone (CMD 3533). If you are not familiar with programming, then you may need a tech to set this up for you.
EX: CMD's
3500>20>00 EXE
3000>TK#>20 EXE
3533>20>1 EXE
Place TK# on a button of every phone (you could use button 0)
Create SLT extension, then cross connect it to the new trunk port.
When you call that SLT extension the trunk will ring. You could also program the SLT extension under a speed dial bin on every phone.

I like that idea Belevedere! I'm going to give that a try as that seems like a great possible solution. :)
