SV8100 upgrade from rev. 2.0 to rev. 3.13 problem

I've been trying to upgrade 4 networked sites that are currently at rev. 2.0 to rev. 3.13. First the remote upgrade failed saying my file was not a valid file. It had been checked after download with the download verifier.
Then I tried onsite upgrades and they failed at each site. The usb key and the and the status lights remained lit solid for over 10 minutes and the process never completed.
Again the files had been checked with the down load verifier. I've upgraded systems before and the right files in the right format were being used.

I remember reading somwhere that the USB needs to look like a drive and not just a storage device when you check in My computer.

Used the same drive to upgrade another system with the same files this morning and it was successful.
