Hi
I have been poking around for this for a bit, and kind find where it is turned off. 15-02 etc, the button is on. I need to be able to have a phone join a line with mute button available. Right now the phone can pickup up the line, yet the mic only mutes in speakerphone, and is on all the time in handset mode. I want the button to mute the handset.

Anyone?

Thanks

Had already tried that, just adds a second mic button that follows the main.

Is there a way to have a mute button for calls using the handset on the SV8100?

According to the F&S book there are 3 ways to try this.
You might try the other 2?

Operation
While talking on a terminal handset:
1. Press MIC.
- OR -
2. Press Feature + dial 1.
- OR -
3. Press the Handset Transmission Cut-Off key (Program15-07-01; Key 40 or SC 751 Key Code
40).

I need to be able to have a phone join a line with mute button " Does this mean you are trying to Barge In and your mute issue is with barged in calls?

That too, yet using an SLT on the line as well. So the SLT will be on the POTS line in parallel with the NEC CO card. Works fine, except that the NEC mute button needs to work as the SLT is the main phone, and the NEC is used for monitoring call only.

According to the feature and specs manual the mute key will mute the handset.

It's some stupid thing that worked when I connect an outside call, yet when I just pickup a trunk, it is in denial. Some NEC control issue. Any ideas on how to bypass/remove this limitation?

When the Pots line is in an "Idle" state, there is a dc current (that can be measured via a volt meter ) When the line is in use via a direct connect Single line phone, the Voltage state is changed, this is why the Key system "Denies Access" . There may be some parameters that allow you to change this state in the Key System ( Try making it an E/M TRUNK, or try making it a Page trunk ) .

I can access the line when the 'single line' phone is off hook, no problem, it won't let me use the mute mic feature in any way. If I make a call from the NEC phone, then I can use the mic button.

You haven't said if you tried the suggestion to program a key (15-07) and assign it with a code of 40 (not 02).
This feature is known as "Microphone Cutoff".
Probably worth a try.

That doesn't fix the mic button. Had tried that before as well.

When you say "the phone can pick up the line" is there a chance that the "line appearance" is trunk that is DIL'ed to a virtual extension?

I'm asking because NEC sez:

When talking on a Virtual Extension you cannot mute the handset.

If you are picking up a call that terminated on a virtual then it can be programmed differently to achieve what you're trying to do.

If I hit the trunk key, I am added to the call, but cannot mute. If I make a call on the same trunk, I can mute. All using the same button on the same phone.

"If I hit the trunk key, I am added to the call, but cannot mute. If I make a call on the same trunk, I can mute."

NEC would probably tell you that the feature is working as described since simply seizing a trunk does not qualify as "While Talking on a Handset . . . etc"
Simply seizing a trunk is a different state than being on an established call.

At this point I would just "modify" a handset so the mic is disabled or get them a headset that has a base station capable of muting the headset.

Thanks much, I though as much too. Why would anyone want to do something other than what we let them?
