Suspicious folder creation (chinese)

In our company we've been dealing several months with a problem that affects backup copy.

After research we've come to the conclusion that Excel 2003 and PowerPoint 2003 may be creating folders with chinese symbols (random, no meaning), which makes backup program to freeze.

Anyone any clue for where I should start from to fix this error?

All workstations are cloned from ghost image, no internet, etc..totally disabled Vista Enterprise by GPO.

Is a Server the common denominator here? Have you tried running ChkDsk on the Server?

I take it the Office programs are fully updated with all relevant patches and Service Packs?

Thanks for your reply! jujet84, I think your approach is great! I installed Process Monitor on several machines to catch which process was creating those folders, I really don't know if this is the problem because I don't know "who" is creating those, but it looks good!
