I purchased the new SuSE 7.0 Professional Box Set of Linux about a month ago. It included a lot of software and manuals yet none of them give me specific detail on setting up the Apache Web Server and getting it going. I went to Barnes and Noble and bought the Apache Server Administrator's Handbook by IDG BOOKS and it still hasn't really helped. I am a new comer to Linux and any assistance would greatly be appreciated as I need to get this box up and running to host websites via the back end of a ISDN connection. I can use Win NT but would much rather get the Linux running on it.
Thanks.

Well, setting up Apache is kind of a broad question, but here we go:

1. Edit the /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf file to set up some things, it's pretty well commented, and you should be able to figure it out. I had to enable the perl stuff, set up cgi-bin directories, server root, number of servers to run, etc.

Run the command: `httpd&`

This should start the server ok, and off you go. If you need more detail, post again, but that should be enough to get started. Just back up the conf file before you mess with it, and have paitence!

As always, I hope that helped!
