Hey all,

I recently installed Suse 10.1 (downloaded from Opensuse) and the installation went very smoothly. I'm liking it and even started taking a Linux System Administration class online. HOWEVER, whenever I try to run the system update I get the following error message:

[SUSE-Linux-10.1-Updates]
This would invalidate script:libzypp-patch-zmdrestart.sh-2-1533-1.noarch[SUSE-Linux-10.1-Updates].
Marking this resolution attempt as invalid.

I understand (I think) that a dependency is when a package needs something else installed so it'll run. How do I correct a dependency that would "invalidate" a script??? Please try to use single syllable words in your explanations as I'm not literate in Linux yet.

Thanks,

Joe Brouillette

This is an issue with OpenSUSE 10.1 only. Starting with this release there are two methods for updating your install. The traditional way is to use YaST and perform an "Online Update". The new Novell-bourne method uses the zenworks management daemon (zmd), the icon in the system tray area. Well, the zmd method shipped broken.

You must do an "Online Update" from YaST to remedy the problem stated, as long as you registered your install. You can register during the install or type [blue]suse-register[/blue] on the command line anytime after. The registration process downloads a list of servers to obtain the updates from. Once the inital "Online Update" is performed zmd will download the updates when available.
