Hi All,
I am having a problem installing Suse 7.3 It goes through the install then when it goes to the first reboot, it hangs. I reboot it manually, and it starts up and I can get to a kde desktop, but then when I go to shutdown normally it hangs again. Do you guys have Linux running on a motherboard similar to mine? GigaByte GA-7ZX with a KT133 chipset. Does linux play well with the KT133 and KT266 chipsets???

Thanks for a reply.

i have the gigabyte 7vtxh (266a chipset...) and for some reason that junk is happening to me too!!

well maybe slightly different...

I installed suse 7.3 on a seperate partition (i also have bootit NG installed on a seperate 8 meg partition, windows on a 8-9 gig partition, and then the rest is linux (out of 20 gigs total)
After install i can boot up fine w/ no errors... but then after i reboot the comp or start up windows then attempt to boot up linux, it hangs... says something about not being able to access the partition or something or another...

I'm definately a linux noob, but im fascinated by linux's possibilities... - Rusty

Thanks for your reply. I am a noob also to linux. I tried the install with a win2k partition at first, then wiped the drive and tried installing Suse by itself. Same results. I know linux is not shutting down properly and that causes the problem when it reloads the next time. The disk haousekeeping wasn't done like it needs to be. Anyway I have tried all manner of BIOS settings to see if I could keep the crashing on shutdown from happening. Maybe it's just 7.3 ? I was going to buy 8.0 last night but decided against it. Anyone know where I can get the 8.0 ISO's to download ? I know SUSE doesn't offer it but another user may, nothing wrong with that...

Thanks for any advice gang !

Tom
