Greetings,
I am running Suse 7.3 and added a 3com 3c905c net card. My problem is that I already have a 3com 3c905c card in and its working. The new one does not show up at all. If I do an lspci it doesnt show up. Dmesg shows only eth0 and no eth1. The module used should be the same (3c95x). I also added an alias for it in modules.conf that basically mirrors the first card except it is alias eth1.

Any ideas as to what I could try to get this to work? I dont know why lspci wouldnt have shown it.....

Tks for any suggestions!

Hi,

If its a multiboot machine does the card work in another O/S ? Have you tried swapping that card for the original (leaving only one card installed) to test if it might be faulty. Also, make certain that you check your plug-and-pray setting in the bios and set it for plug-and-play operating system = no . Otherwise the bios will not preconfig pci devices for linux. (unlike windoze, linux does not have any code that configures these devices during startup).

Hope this helps

I used the card in another OS, they both worked.

I will try the BIOS thing, as I cant think what else it could be besides a hardware conflict, but wouldnt that be logged at boot?

Thanks for the post/reply!
