suse 9.1 box loses established connection

I'm using a dual boot system win xp/Suse 9.1 personal.
I've been up and running for weeks/months and today I lose my connection and can not reconnect.
all of my IP #'s are accurate and nothing noticable has changed in my config.
Any ideas or similar occurances?
also as I restart my system I have twice now seen a window that appears briefly indicating a crash has occured but I never have more than 1 second before the system restarts and I dont see this screen unless I restart my system.

If both OS's have lost connection, I would check your hardware. Might be bad NIC, cable, or hub/switch/router/whatever.

You should be able to hit the 'pause' key on bootup to read the error msg.

Can you ping localhost?

I'm not sure what happened but all is well now.
