Hello

We are running SuSE Professional 8.2 on a single processor machine, if I wanted to put a second processor into this machine would Linux see it?? what else would I need to do to get this second processor running??? Does SuSE 8.2 support more than a single processor????

Thanks
Simon

Suse 8.2 can support multiple processor. You need symetric multiple processor (smp) linux kernel on your linux.
And try run this comand # mpstat ; check your multiple processor status.Good Luck....:)

You'll also need to recompile a the kernel etc. The default SMP kernel doesn't work with some peripheral drivers. I tried...

Could I recompile the Kernal for a second processor without the processor being installed, so that 1/2 year down the line when I need a second processor I can just plonk it in???

Simon

Yep, no problem. The SMP kernel enables the processor it finds when initialising the system.
