I have configured a SUS server and I am using RIS to deploy Windows XP. Once a new computer is joined to the domain I would like to have it automatically connect to the SUS server and install any new updates instead of waiting for the machine to query the SUS server.

I currently download the critcal updates and use the "qchain" feature in a script to run, so whenever a new machine is joined to the domain it will have all the critical updates installed that it needs.

If any one has additional information on SUS I would appreciate it.

There isn't really any way of forcing a quick update with SUS. If you turn off windows update and turn it back on it is supposed to go and check within ten minutes. However I've found that sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn't.

I came across an article that said to run this "wuauclt /detectnow". It initiates the Windows Update and will query the SUS server when launched.

It did not seem to work. As well from the readings I have been coming across, only members of the administator group are going to get the update notification from the SUS server? Can somone one confirm this?

Thank You
