I have some surveys that I want users to be able to fill out. It seems that to fill out a survey the user has to have contribute permissions. I just want them to have reader permissions because these people shouldn't be able to update lists and libraries. Is there anyway to do this?

Thanks!

Hello,

I would create a custom site group and assign it only to the survey lists. Then I would remove the default contributor sitegroup from that list. This way users can have read rights on all the other parts of the site, but given update rights for the specific survey lists. Then the users should only be able to fill out the surveys and not update anything else.

Regards,
Thomas

I was having the same problem. Thanks Thomas, your solution makes plenty sense.

I am having this same issue... I will appologize in advance this is the first time I have worked with Sharepoint...

Once I create the site group what permissions/rights does it need?
I called mine "survey".

Once the group is setup. Do I assign it to the survey via the "Change permissions of survey"? I'm not seeing the new site group "survey" that I just created above.

Ideally I am creating a subsite that has only a survey in it. I want to setup a site group called "survey" and put in it only the users that should take the survey. I also don't want user to be able to view the results.

I would appreciate any assistance or pointer to documents.

Thank you,

R

I think I found my answer on another site. Here is the info...

---------------------------------------------------
I had to ask Microsoft to get my answer.

Under "Modify Item-Level Security" the "Edit Access" option cannot be set to "none." You have to set it to "Only their own" and then modify the group/user permissions to allow only "View" and "Add" permissions (under advanced permissions in the Survey permissions page).

hope this helps someone.
