Two questions, one post. First, when I took the first CCNA test (Intro) there was a survey at the beginning asking if I could perform certain actions. The responses were something like Yes, I can do this, or Yes, I can do this with help, or no, I have to have someone else do this. Does anyone know if that has any effect on the selection of questions you get?

Secondly, I've been using an older laptop with a rollover console cable to connect to the console port on my router. Most new laptops are only coming with USB ports now. Does Cisco make some kind of USB rollover cable that will work? Also, since it's USB, and you won't have a Com port, what program can you use to connect? Hyperterminal doesn't have a USB option - yet. Thanks.

As far as I've ever been able to tell on the survey it is just to get some demographics on who is taking the exams. I've answered in a variety of ways and it never makes a difference on the questions I've received.

As for the rollover cable, if you go get a USB to serial adapter you can then get a serial port on your laptop.

Thanks. Do you know if Hyperterminal will still work with the USB to serial adapter? Although, I'm not opposed to using something else, like a Unix terminal.

as far as I know it will work. I've used on in the past, but don't typically use hyperterminal if I can help it.

The usb to serial adapter will look like another com port to hyperterminal, its just a matter of figuring out which port.

Hyperterminal is the worst program to use to manage serial devices. I would recommend Tera Term

Don't ever lose the driver cd for the usb-to-serial adapter---well, mine always starts the stupid-ass Found New Hardware wizard every time I plug the g** dam* thing in...

Tera Term is good
and you can manage all COM ports
i've changed my usb serial adapter port from COM8 to COM1

Thanks.
