Everybody,

I'm in the process of bring a new Win2k/MF XP server online that is going to replace our old MF server, but I'm having problems getting the printers working.
1. When logging in the printer does get auto created with no problems.
2. It will print if I go to a CMD prompt and push something to the printer (like a dir > lpt1).
3. Trying to print from anything windows (notepad, an application, even a printer test page) gives me an error pop-up that says "There was an error found when printing the document "Untitled - Notepad" to CLIENT\GURU#\\\HERCULES\LEXMARK OPTRA L SERIES.
Do you want to retry or cancel the job?"
4. I will also get event 45 "Document failed to print due to GDI/Driver error in rendering." as well, I tried a few of the work arounds suggested on a few sites.
5. Printing works fine if I go in through a regular terminal server session.

I'm also having a problem with auto-created printers not deleting after the user logs off. But I'm a little less concerned about that one than not being able to print at all.

As you can see I'm stuck with the Lexmark printer for doing these tests, at least until next week sometime, so I'm not even sure if this is what is causing the problem or not. However it is using the regular Win2k driver that came on the CD on both sides.

Are you sure you are using exactly the same driver on the server as on the client ?

I'm almost 100% positive, both were loaded off the Win2k CD. To go a step further, I had the same problems even when I map the printers to the universal driver. The only other printer we have in the office is a fairly new Deskjet that I tried as well with the same result (although I didn't try mapping that one to one of the "known" citrix friendly deskjet drivers).

Also this happens with all accounts and groups.

Another wierd thing, I noticed when I log in through ICA the management screen shows the login obviously, but it doesn't show any printer's in the Management Console, is it supposed to?

Andrew

Further developments, it turns out that it was just our printer not being compatible with Citrix (strange that it works fine through a regular terminal server connection). I conned a friend of mine to log in through ICA, hop into notepad and print out a test document succesfully.

So it looks like I'll be all set to continue testing, and setting up the applications.

Msoft has hotfixes for the GDI error 45.
