In our work database it allows for phone extensions.
When I am making the formula I have been doing the formula

Picture{Patient.patphone},"(XXX) XXX-XXXX XXXX")

Where the blank is before the 4 digit extension I have been using an "x" then suppression the "x" of their is no phone extension. It would be much easier to be able to place the "x" in the formula, but I can't becuase the "x" represents a character. My company insists that no other character be used. Any suggestions?

Create with called stringx and set it to "x". Place that in your formula.

Can you be more specific? I am not quite sure what you meant.

How about something like this:

Picture({Patient.patphone}[1 to 10],"(XXX) XXX-XXXX") +

if length ({Patient.patphone})<11
then ''
else ' x' + {Patient.patphone}[11 to 14] Ken Hamady
