I have a crystal report (vers 8)which summarizes employee data over a 3year period with a separate column for each year. For example,

Department A
Emp A 2001 Total 2002 Total 2003 Total
Emp B 2001 Total 2002 Total 2003 TOtal
Total Department A

I want to supress an employee (which is set up as a group - sum of all his yearly transactions) if the value in the 2002 field is 0. When I do this, it supresses that employee but the employee's total is still in the subtotal for the department...which is another group. how do I stop Crystal from adding that member's totals to the department footer?

If I understand you correctly, you are grouping by employee, and probably using formulas to establish the values for each year (e.g. if {year} = 2002 then {value}). The problem is that merely suppressing the group total section doesn't prevent the values being added to other group subtotals or grand totals. How about changing your subtotals to formulas that include a check of the year 2002 value (e.g. if Sum({@Year 2002},{employee}) <> 0 then Sum({@Year 2003},{employee}). Another way to do this is with running totals - simply setup a running total and apply a condition to it based on the 2002 subtotal.

Thank you very much! I used the running total approach.
