Supress/Select on Subreport Value

I'm using CR 7.01

I have a report with a main report and a subreport. I am bringing a value (number)into the main report and I have a simple subtraction formula between a main report value and the subreport value (via shared variable). I want to be able to select on that formula. I know that I can supress the details based on the subtraction formula but I get huge gaps in the report where the supression meets this criteria. But I only want a compact report to print out. I'm not sure if this can be done but it would also be nice to be able to do a running total on this formula field.

Any suggestions, could these options be available in later versions of CR?

Format the section to Suppress blank sections, and if nothing prints in that section, the white space will be zapped. Malcolm Wynden
