Suppressing sub report at runtime

I have designed several reports which all work as expected in designer/preview mode, i.e. when a subreport has no data, it is suppressed.

When I view the report at runtime(VB/CRAXDRT), the subreport is visible regardless.

Why is this?
And how can I fix it?
