I have a report with 3 Groups and 2 Detail sections.
Detail Section b contains a Subreport. I suppress the Detail section if the Subreport is blank.

I want to now suppress Details Section a if Details Section b is is blank.
Then I want to suppress Group Header # 3 and Group # 2 if Detail Section a is blank.

Is this done with formulas or is there another way?

It isn't possible to do this.

The sub-report data is not available until the section after the one it is located in. You are attempting to use the data generated in Detail B to format Detail A.

Replicating the sub-report into an earlier section might would allow you to control the Details section suppression (although extremely inefficient) but won't help with the Group Header suppression.

If you explain the report and data in more detail we might be able to assist with an alternative approach.

Hi Pete,

Thanks for the assistance.

I am trying to create a report we call Open Sales Order Requisitions. This report should only show information about Sales Orders if there are associated Requisitions made.

In the Main report I have 4 Groups. It uses 3 tables; Organizations, SalesOrders and SalesOrderLines

Group 1 = Sales Order Delivery Date
Group 2 = Customer Name
Group 3 = Sales Order ID
Group 4 = Sales Order Line ID

Group 1 and Group 4 are hard suppressed

In Group 3 I Show the Sales Order detail, like Sales Order ID, Delivery Date, Customer PO.

In Details A I show the Sales Order Lines detail like Qty, Part Number, Line ID.

In Details B I have a subreport that pulls Requisition information from a different table for each Sales Order Line. The Subreport links are the Sales Order Number and Sales Order Line ID. The subreport uses 2 tables RequistionLines, Parts

If there are no requisition Details for a Sales Order Line, then I suppress the subreport. I have that figured out...

Now what I need is...

If there are no Requisition details for a line, i want to suppress the line details also (Details A).

Then, if all the lines of a Sales Order have no Requisition Details, then I don't need to see the Sales Order information either, so I would want to suppress Group 3.

Following the pattern, then if All Sales order for a particular customer are suppressed, I would want to suppress Group 2 and similarly for group 1 if all Sales Order for a specific Delivery Date are suppressed.

Thanks again for any further suggestions...

It is not clear why you are using a sub-report and if nothing else, a detail level sub-report is going to be incredibly inefficient.

Is is absolutely necessary? What happens if you just add the additional tables to the main report? Maybe some sample data (showing the table its from) and the results you are looking for might help us here.

Cheers
Pete
