I have a subreport placed in a group header (Group 2) which calculates a shared variable value.Depending on the shared variable value, I am able to suppress the Details section(immediately after Group2). Group 2 Header section has no other details to be printed. I need to suppress printing of the group2 header becos it creates a very large report. If I set the "Suppress Group Header Section", the subreport is not getting executed ie the shared variable value is not set.I cannot set the height of the group header section to almost zero, becos of the subreport placed there. How can I prevent the space taken by the group header AND at the same time get the subreport executed?.

Try to turn on the "Underlay Following Section" attribute
in the Group Header section Format options.

Use color and border options to make the subreport "invisible."

I tried it , but it does not seem to work

OK,
The details are as follows>
TABLE 1 (TABLEx-FK, PK1, COL11, COL12)
TABLE 2 (TABLE1-FK, PK2, COL21, COL22)

RECORD SELECTION: TABLE1.TABLEX-FK = 'nnnnn'

GROUP1 on : COL11
GROUP2 on : PK2 (placed @ResetStringSharedVar1 here, placed SUB REPORT 1 on this group header section)
Details SECTION: 1 record per detail section (since Group 2 is based on PK2)
Data in detail section = {All data from Table 1 ....}, @DisplayStringSharedVar1

SUB REPORT Input parameter: PK2, COL22
Functionality : Check various tables for data and based on the checks set the shared variable . @SetStrSharedVariable='SUCCESS'/'FAILED'

OBJECTIVE:
a) Print details section only if @DisplayStringSharedVar1 = 'FAILED' (able to do this using this Suppress rule for details section)

b) Suppress printing of Group 2 header in all cases since there may be only say 1 0r 2 failed records per 10,000 success records, The Group 2 header takes up pages.
My case has a report of 342 pages with only 2 'failed' records getting displayed ie 340 blank pages with 1 line data each in 2 pages. The 340 plank pages is becos of the phsical space taken by the Group 2 Header.

c) I NEED the subreport , becos of the left outer join conditions and do not want to eliminate its use.
