Hi there,

I have a report which is, frankly, massive.

The only way it can be successfully utilised is to drive it by the group tree on the right. The trouble is, when I export this to pdf, Adobe replaces the group tree with it's own page preview navigation thing, which is useless.

Is there a way to supercede this in Adobe, and force it to replicate the crystal viewer group tree?

Failing this, is it possible to create the same thing in an html file that can be attached to email and viewed offline BUT keeping the group tree navigation?

Stars await the truth!

Thanks!

I meant the group tree on the left, of course, not the right. This issue is getting me all muddled...

Hi,
Odd..If run from CR Designer, the export to PDF has an Option to create Bookmarks from the Groups, and if scheduled in the CMC with the format set to PDF, it also includes that option..Exporting from the viewer on demand, however, lacks that feature ( as far as I can tell, anyway)..

You forgot to mention your version. Starting with "Crystal XI R2" that option is available. For earlier version, consider a 3rd-party Crystal tool (see list at:
My "Visual CUT" software allows you to generate bookmarks in pdf exports in earlier versions of Crystal reports. It allows you to color code the bookmarks based on Crystal formula logic (so you can highlight good/bad nodes in the Group hierarchy). It also allows you to generate a Table of Contents.

hth,
- Ido

view, e-mail, export, burst, distribute, and schedule Crystal Reports.

Hi,
Just to clarify my posting..
BOEXI R2 will not provide the option for converting Groups to Bookmarks for reports viewed on demand and then exported from the viewer...Only by scheduling a report does the 'convert Group to bookmark' option become available..

CRXI does provide this option when running the repport in the designer..

Hi guys,

I am indeed using XI R2, both Crystal and BOE. It's exporting from the viewer that I'm running into the issue, as Turkbear illustrated.

Sorry, I guess I could have been clearer in my original post.

Thanks for all your help.

CRXIR2 allows you to save export options along with your report.

1) Open your report and go to File > Export > Report Export Options.
2) Select Adobe Acrobat (PDF) and click "OK"
3) Check "Create bookmarks from group tree" and click "OK"
4) Re-save your report to Crystal Enterprise

Now, whenever a user exports a report from InfoView, they will always have a bookmark section created in their PDF.

It seems that in XI, Business Objects took away the ability for InfoView users to control how their reports export, and now expect designers to specifically set how each report can be exported in each format.

Just to be clear... my second-last sentence above should read:

"Now, whenever a user exports *this* report from InfoView *to PDF*, the PDF will have a bookmark section created."

You need to set the Export Options for every report individually. As far as I know there is no way to do this globally (eg say that all PDF exports will always contain a group tree).

Hi,
Great tip...Works like a dream..
Star for you
